SAT Tips
- The best long-term preparation is to read a newspaper every day.
- If English isn’t your native language, hone in on the fundamental rules of English grammar. Go back and review basics. Get a tutor for stuff you didn’t have down.
- The composition section is weighed as a third of your score. An SAT prep course has helped students increase their mark an average of 136 points.
- The essay doesn’t measure how smart or creative you are. It’s not about substance. You are being tested on appropriate use of vocabulary, grammar, and spelling and how well you structure your essay, explain your position and present a clear conclusion.
- If you can’t afford an SAT-prep course, The Princeton Review trains 8,000 kids a year as part of a program that costs students $5 per class. Visit http://www.PrincetonReview.com. Plus, there are plenty of affordable books on the market.
