Volunteer Opportunities

Program volunteers are involved with all aspects of planning, implementing, and managing program activities. Assignments for program volunteers include:

Program Coordinator

Roles and responsibilities: Program Coordinators serve to coordinate the activities of and volunteers assigned to the Enrichment Program.  The Program Coordinators are team leaders for the girls and boys divisions. They are primarily responsible for organizing the selection process, organizing the orientation session, identifying and assigning classrooms, directing the program volunteers, monitoring program activities, ensuring adherence to guidelines and safety measures, organizing the closing ceremony, and serving as the program’s representative on the Granville of Waterbury Academy’s executive committee.

Organizational status: Reports directly to Granville Academy of Waterbury president

Skill set:  Good communication, management and computer (program applications & Internet) skills

Approximate hour per month: 18 hrs

 

Assessment Facilitator

Roles and Responsibilities: The Assessment Coordinator serves to develop and administer the pre and post assessment instruments that measure each student’s progress and the program’s effectiveness. The Assessment Coordinator periodically coordinates an assessment of the program’s strengths and weaknesses to ensure a high level of performance and desired outcomes.

Organizational status: Reports directly to Program Coordinator

Skill set: Math, writing, analysis, and computer (program applications & Internet) skills

Approximate hour per month: 10 hrs

 

Group Leader

Group Leaders at each grade level serve to facilitate the learning experience of students by using a variety of instructional approaches. Group leaders prepare lesson plans for each session during the 16 biweekly sessions in accordance with the Enrichment Program’s core components and curricula. Group leaders provide students with an enriching, enjoyable and relevant experiences which contributes to their personal development.

Organizational status: Reports directly to Program Coordinator

Skill set:  Management, communication, computer (program applications & Internet) skills

Approximate hour per month: 12hrs

 

Attendance Facilitator

Roles and Responsibilities: The Attendance Coordinator serves to ensure the proper registration of each student and maintenance and updating of a master program roster by groups, The Attendance facilitator tracks student attendance, and manages a station at the facility for parents and guardians to sign-in their child for each session. The Attendance facilitator provides the Program Coordinator and Group Leaders with monthly attendance reports. The Attendance facilitator can assist a parent/ guardian with special transportation needs as they arise in accordance with Granville Academy of Waterbury’s guidelines.

Skill set: Communication and computer (data base, program applications, Internet) skills

Approximate hours per month: 12 hrs

 

Field Trips Facilitator

Roles and Responsibilities: The Field Trip Facilitator serves to develop and coordinate an overall schedule of trips for the Enrichment Program. The schedule is produced with input from other members of the Enrichment Program team prior to the Parent/Guardian/Student orientation session. The schedule includes dates, destinations, means of transportation, place and time of departure (to and from), cost if applicable, and any special requirements. The Field Trip Facilitator ensures that signed permission slips from parents and guardians are presented and, a passenger roster is completed for each trip. The Field Trip Facilitator recruits trip chaperons and ensures students are aware of the code of conduct expected during trips. The Field Trip Facilitator collects and records any cost for students if applicable.

Approximate hour per month: 12 hrs

 

Parent/Guardian Liaison

Roles and Responsibilities: The Parent/Guardian Liaison serves to keep parents and guardians informed about and involved in the Enrichment Program. The liaison monitors and keeps a record of parents/guardians compliance with the participation commitment agreement. The liaison maintains communication between the program volunteers and parents/guardians. The liaison develops a schedule of workshops for parents and guardians and recruits facilitators. The liaison is responsible for identifying volunteers needed for support activities.

Organizational status: Reports directly to Program Coordinator

Skill Set: Good interpersonal and computer (program applications & Internet) skills

Approximate hour per month: 12 hrs

STEM Projects Leader

The STEM Projects Leader serves to assemble, manage, and assign a team of professionals in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and education to plan and develop age appropriate hands-on projects for the Enrichment Program. The STEM Projects Leader facilitates the coordination of the STEM team’s efforts with Lower Grade Academy group leaders to effectively integrate subjects. Professionals assigned to a group identify materials needed and provide classroom instruction for each STEM project. The Projects Leaders keeps the program coordinators abreast of the involvement of the STEM professionals during the program year.

Organizational status: Reports directly to Program Coordinator

Skill Set: Good customer service, management, and computer skills

Approximate hour per month: 12 hrs
